Airport Customs Arrest 18 Suspects Over Illegal Cigarette Smuggling Attempt

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Airport Customs have arrested 18 suspects along with a stock of foreign-manufactured cigarettes, valued at Rs. 31,380,000 which was illegally brought into the country.

Sri Lanka Customs stated that the group includes two Sri Lankans and 16 Chinese nationals.

They had arrived at the Bandarnaike International Airport, in Katunayake from Dubai and Malaysia.

Customs further stated that 1,046 cigarette cartons containing 209,200 Chinese-manufactured cigarettes were found hidden inside 27 pieces of luggage belonging to them.
