Sri Lanka Secures Seat on UN Women’s Rights Committee (CEDAW)

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka has been elected to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) at the election held at the United Nations Headquarters.

Sri Lanka secured 144 votes out of 185 valid votes, receiving the highest number of votes among all successful candidates.

The election reflects the confidence of the international community in Sri Lanka’s commitment to advancing and protecting women’s rights and promoting gender equality.

The candidate Prof. Rangita de Silva has been re-elected to CEDAW, becoming the only Sri Lankan candidate to secure re-election.
