1,000 Archaeological Sites To Be Conserved Under New Initiative

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Archaeology has decided to launch a program to conserve 1,000 archaeological sites across the country.

Director General of Archaeology Senarath Wickramasinghe said the initiative, titled "Urumayata Jeewayak" (උරුමයට ජීවයක්)," will be launched in line with national Archaeology Day on the 7th of July.

He stated that 100 archaeological sites will be excavated and conserved during the first phase of the program.

The Director General further noted that a parallel programme is being implemented to encourage community participation in the conservation of archaeological sites.
