UN Plans Additional US$10 Million for Disaster Management in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st): UN Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka Marc-André Franche says that an additional US$10 million is planned for disaster management in Sri Lanka.

He made the remarks during a discussion with Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Dr. Upali Pannilage.

World Food Programme (WFP) Sri Lanka Representative Philip Ward also participated in the discussions.

Participating in the discussions, he said that US$7 million had been provided for disaster management during Cyclone Ditwah.

The UN representatives also noted that the manner in which the funds were used to restore the lives of people affected by the disaster was commendable.
