Senior Official at the Presidential Secretariat Arrested Over Alleged Fake Passport Fraud

COLOMBO (News 1st): A Senior Assistant Secretary of the Presidential Secretariat, was arrested for allegedly preparing a fake passport under the name of a third party to facilitate the escape, out of Sri Lanka, for an organised criminal.

Accordingly, a 41-year-old, resident of Kandy was taken into custody.

The suspect had previously served as a Deputy Controller in the Overseas Missions Branch of the Department of Immigration and Emigration. 

Investigations have revealed that he is alleged to have carried out the offence during his tenure in that position.

The investigation is being conducted by the Human Trafficking, Smuggling and Maritime Crimes Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department.
