COLOMBO (News 1st);The National Dengue Control Unit says that a high number of mosquito breeding sites have been identified in schools, government institutions, factories, and religious places.
Consultant Community Physician at the National Dengue Control Unit Prashila Samaraweera said that this information was revealed through entomological surveys.
The doctor also advised parents to refrain from sending their children to school if they are suffering from a fever.
The total number of dengue cases reported so far this year is 44,480.
The National Dengue Control Unit mentioned that 28 dengue-related deaths have been recorded to date.
Meanwhile, under the island-wide special mosquito control program, today has been dedicated to cleaning private houses and their surrounding premises.
Additionally, Provincial Directors of Education have been instructed to take immediate measures to control the spread of dengue in schools.
Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Nalaka Kaluwewa, said that instructions regarding this matter were given to all Provincial Directors of Education individually.
