COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police have announced comprehensive islandwide security and traffic arrangements ahead of the Hajj Festival, which will be observed on May 28, 2026, to ensure the safety of Muslim devotees participating in religious observances.
In a statement issued by the Police Media Division, it was noted that the Inspector General of Police has directed all police stations across the country to implement enhanced security measures. A coordinated plan has been put in place to maintain order and facilitate smooth conduct of religious activities at mosques and surrounding areas.
Under the arrangements, police officers have been deployed at major mosques and key points where special prayers will be held.
Authorities have also introduced a dedicated traffic management plan aimed at reducing congestion in areas with high footfall and ensuring uninterrupted movement of worshippers.
The security framework further includes the deployment of mobile, foot, bicycle, and motorcycle patrols, particularly in areas with significant Muslim populations. In addition, intelligence units have been mobilised to monitor developments and support proactive measures to prevent any potential threats.
Police have urged the public to cooperate fully with officers on duty and to remain vigilant. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station or through emergency hotlines 119 and 118.
