Third Body Recovered Following Tragic Drowning in Mahaweli River

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The body of the final person reported missing after being swept away in the Mahaweli River near the Verugal Aru area in Serunuwara has been recovered.

With this recovery of the body, the death toll from the tragic accident that occurred yesterday afternoon has risen to three. 

The three deceased were brothers from the same family, aged 24, 34, and 35.

The brothers, residents of Mahindapura, went missing yesterday morning after being caught in a strong current while bathing in the river. 

Their bodies were recovered following a joint search and rescue operation conducted by the Police and the Sri Lanka Navy.
