Russia Pledges Support for Sri Lanka’s Energy Needs

COLOMBO(News 1st); Russia has pledged significant support to help Sri Lanka meet its energy needs during a high-level meeting between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko and Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath. 

During the discussion held on April 2nd, the Russian envoy confirmed that his government is ready to fast-track the supply of oil to the island and encourage more investors and tourists to support the local economy.

A key highlight of the meeting was Russia's agreement to provide compensation for Sri Lankan military personnel who passed away while in Russia. Deputy Minister Rudenko emphasized that Russia remains a steadfast friend to Sri Lanka and is committed to assisting the nation through its current economic challenges. 

He also noted the positive feedback from Russian tourists regarding the beauty of the country and the hospitality of its people.

Minister Vijitha Herath expressed deep gratitude for Russia’s timely assistance, noting that the two nations are approaching 70 years of diplomatic relations. 

He highlighted that the government is now focusing on signing long-term trade agreements to further solidify this partnership. Both parties agreed that strengthening these historic ties is essential for the future stability and growth of both countries.
