COLOMBO (News 1st): In a coordinated operation conducted yesterday, the Sri Lanka Navy and the Coast Guard apprehended two suspects attempting to smuggle 06kg and 865g of gold into the country.
According to the Sri Lanka Navy, acting upon credible information, the operation was launched in the territorial waters off Kankesanthurai, Jaffna, leading to the interception of the dinghy used for this illegal act.
Meanwhile, the suspects held in this operation have been identified as residents of Madagal, Jaffna, aged 41 and 49.
The two suspects, gold and the dinghy, were handed over to the Customs Sub-Preventive Office, Kankasanthurei, Jaffna, for onward legal action.
