COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Transport Commission (NTC) has confirmed that bus fares will not be increased following the recent rise in fuel prices.
Dr. Nilan Miranda, Director General of the NTC, explained that adjustments to inter-district bus fares are based on a specific percentage threshold. Since the recent fuel price hike does not meet this threshold, fares will remain unchanged.
Dr. Miranda added that typically, a fuel price change must impact fares by the equivalent of 4 units for any revision to occur. As diesel prices rose by only 1.84 units, bus fares remain unaffected.
The announcement comes after the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation raised prices for Octane 92 Petrol, Octane 95 Petrol, Auto Diesel, Super Diesel, and Kerosene, effective from midnight yesterday.
