COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo High Court has ordered that another case filed by the Bribery Commission against former North Central Province Chief Minister S. M. Ranjith be taken up for hearing on April 2.
The case was called today before Colombo High Court Judge Mohommed Mihal.
S. M. Ranjith is already serving a prison sentence after being found guilty under the Bribery Act for committing the offence of “corruption.”
After considering the submissions presented, the judge instructed that the case be taken up again on April 2.
The judge further ordered that summons be issued, directing all relevant witnesses to appear before the court on that date.
According to the charges filed by the Bribery Commission, between September 27, 2012, and December 31, 2014, while serving as Chief Minister of the North Central Provincial Council, S. M. Ranjith unlawfully obtained fuel in addition to his salary and fuel allowance.
This alleged misconduct is said to have caused a financial loss to the government, and the Commission has filed the case for committing the offence known as “corruption.”
