Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, Bimal Rathnayake, expressed his deep regret in Parliament today regarding the railway strike launched at midnight yesterday.
The Minister highlighted that the strike comes at a time when the government has been working tirelessly to restore rail tracks following recent disasters, including the successful recovery of the Ella Odyssey service and the ongoing emergency repairs to the Peradeniya Bridge.
He added that every effort is being made to resume train services over the bridge by April 14th.
He noted that the tri forces have provided vital support in restoring normalcy.
Minister Rathnayake concluded by emphasizing that calling a strike under such challenging circumstances is highly regrettable.
