COLOMBO (News 1st): Health authorities say that multiple factors, including mosquito adaptation, have contributed to the rapid spread of dengue.
Professor Nayana Gunathilaka of the Department of Parasitology at the University of Kelaniya said that changing weather conditions have also led to an increase in the density of mosquito larvae.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health says that the number of dengue patients in the country has exceeded fifty thousand.
Acting Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, said that severe over crowding have been reported from hospitals across the country due to this situation.
He also stated that red notices have been issued for premises found with mosquito larvae.
