Final Rites Of Unclaimed Care Home Fire Victims Funded By State

COLOMBO (News 1st); Police say steps have been taken to conduct, at state expense, the final rites of victims of the fire at the Care Home in Anguruwatota whose bodies remain unclaimed by relatives.

Police stated that post-mortem examinations of all those who died will be carried out today at the Horana Hospital, after which the bodies will be released to relatives for funeral arrangements.

There were 71 residents at the facility when the fire broke out.

A total of 13 people lost their lives in the incident.

Five others who sustained injuries in the fire are currently receiving treatment at the Horana Base Hospital.
