COLOMBO (News 1st): The Walk For Peace in the Island of Peace, officially commenced this morning from the city of Dambulla, led by Ven. Pannakara Thero alongside members of the Maha Sangha and the certified service canine Aloka.

This significant spiritual journey began at dawn following a traditional Sanghika Dana ceremony and is being conducted under the guidance of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and the "Clean Sri Lanka" program offering logistical support.

The Maharaja Media Network has been appointed the Official Media and Coordination Partner for the Sri Lankan chapter of the pilgrimage.

The groundwork for this walk was laid yesterday evening in the sacred city of Anuradhapura, where Ven. Pannyakara Thero and his delegation from the United States engaged in religious observances.

During a ceremony held at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, the Chief Prelate of the Atamasthana, Venerable Pallegama Hemarathana Thero, formally presented a sapling of the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bo tree to the visiting delegation, who then continued their observances at the Ruwanweli Maha Seya.

Following today's departure from Dambulla, the Walk Of Peace is expected to reach Aluvihare in Matale by this evening.

The journey will resume tomorrow morning, heading toward the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy, before setting out the following day for the Beligammana Rajamaha Viharaya in Kegalle.

Over the subsequent days, the procession will pass through Tholangamuwa Central College on April 25th and Yakkala Chandrajothi College on April 26th, eventually arriving at the Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya on April 27th.

The Walk For Peace will reach its conclusion on April 28th when the group departs Kelaniya to arrive at Independence Square by 4:00 PM.

At this location, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will officially hand over the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi sapling to the delegation in a diplomatic ceremony. The final leg of the "The Walk For Peace in the Island of Peace" will then see the procession move from Independence Square, passing the Maharaja Media Network Head Office, and concluding at the Gangaramaya Temple.
