Issuance of National Identity Cards to Resume Today After System Failure

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department for Registration of Persons has announced that both one-day and normal services for issuing National Identity Cards (NICs) will resume today.

Services were suspended over the past few days due to a system failure in the department's computer system.

Speaking exclusively to Newsfirst the Commissioner General of the Department for Registration of Persons, Jagath Herath, confirmed that all public service divisions are now fully operational.

According to Commissioner General Jagath Herath the upgrades required following the system failure and other maintainence work has been completed and the system has been brought back to normal. 

Accordingly all public services related to the ID Office in both one day and normal services can be obtained starting today. 

Previously only the one-day service was available to the public.
