COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Pilaessa Magistrate, W.M.M.I. Wasala, has ordered the release of the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, Kamal Amarasinghe, who had been held in remand custody.
The Magistrate ordered his release on a cash bail of Rs. 25,000, two personal bails of Rs. 200,000 each, and imposed an overseas travel ban.
Kamal Amarasinghe was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on March 27th in connection with an alleged irregularity involving the registration of a vehicle.
A team of lawyers, including President’s Counsel Kalinga Indatissa, appeared on behalf of the suspect.
The case is scheduled to be called again on May 11th.
