COLOMBO (News 1st) - Two suspects were arrested for allegedly transporting one of the shooters to Monaragala by bus following the murder of a lawyer and his wife in Akuregoda.
Police said the suspects, aged 39 and 53, are residents of Ibbagamuwa and Makola.
Investigations have revealed that one of the suspects transported the gunman using a bus purchased with funds provided by an organized crime figure currently overseas.
The bus used in the operation has since been taken into custody by investigators.
Police added that the Western Province South Crime Division and the Homagama Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau have so far arrested two shooters and six suspects for aiding and abetting the crime.
Several police teams are continuing investigations into the Akuregoda double murder.
The victims, attorney Buddhika Mallawarachchi and his wife, were shot dead in Akuregoda, Thalangama, on the 13th of February.
Police stated that the shooting was allegedly carried out on the instructions of an organized criminal known as 'Karandeniya Sudda'.
Investigations have also revealed that the murdered lawyer had previously appeared in several court cases involving Karandeniya Sudda.
