COLOMBO (News 1st); Air pollution levels have risen again in several areas, according to the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO).

The NBRO stated that the worsening air quality is linked to pollution levels prevailing in South Asian countries and the current wind patterns affecting the region.

Several locations in the Colombo District recorded elevated Air Quality Index (AQI) values, with Kotte reporting an AQI level of 127.

The NBRO noted that this value is significantly higher than the acceptable standard, which should ideally remain below 50.

In Kolonnawa, the AQI reached 100 this morning.

Air pollution levels were also recorded in Anuradhapura at 60 and Galle at 81, the institution added.

Due to the increased pollution levels, the NBRO has advised sensitive individuals and those with health conditions to exercise caution.
