COLOMBO (News 1st) - The 160th Police Day is being commemorated today.
The Police Day celebrations are scheduled to be held today at the Thimbirigasyaya Field Force Headquarters, under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The Sri Lanka Police Service was established on September 3, 1866.
Since then, the Sri Lanka Police have carried out a vital mission to safeguard law and order in the country for the past 160 years.
Protecting the lives and property of the public, preventing crime, investigating criminal activities, and maintaining law and order are among the key responsibilities entrusted to the Sri Lanka Police.
Police officers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, as well as those who served the public while facing numerous challenges throughout the 160-year history of the service, will also be commemorated today.
