Rs. 36 Mn Unpaid Construction Payment Leads to Airport Arrest

COLOMBO (News 1st): A businessman was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake on Wednesday (2) afternoon on allegations of criminal breach of trust involving more than Rs. 36 million, Police said.

According to Police, the suspect was taken into custody by Immigration and Emigration officials when he arrived at the airport in an attempt to leave the country.

Investigators allege that the businessman had failed to make a payment of Rs. 36,025,977 related to the construction of a housing complex, leading to allegations that he had breached the trust placed in him in connection with the transaction.

Following the arrest, the suspect was handed over to investigators for further inquiries.

Police said the businessman has been taken to the Colombo Central Crimes Investigation Bureau, where further investigations are now underway.
