Heat Index To Remain At ‘Attention’ Level In 8 Districts Tomorrow

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department of Meteorology states that the heat index, the temperature felt on the human body, will remain at a level requiring attention tomorrow across 8 districts.

This advisory applies to the districts of Trincomalee, Ampara, Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa, Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Monaragala, and Jaffna.

The Department of Meteorology also stated that residents living in these districts should pay special attention to this situation.

Yesterday, the highest temperature in the island was recorded from the Mullaitivu district, reaching 36.7°C.

The temperature in the Trincomalee district was recorded as 36.4°C, and in Polonnaruwa as 36°C.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology announced that the sun will be directly overhead relative to Sri Lanka from tomorrow until the 7th of next month.

Tomorrow at 12:11 PM, the sun will be directly overhead the towns of Kokkuvil, Nallur, Kodikamam, and Nagar Kovil.

Currently, dry weather conditions prevail in the Eastern, North Central, and Uva provinces, as well as in several areas of the Hambantota, Puttalam, and Ratnapura districts.

However, rainy weather conditions continue to persist in the southwestern regions of the island.

The Department of Meteorology noted that fairly heavy showers exceeding 75 mm can be expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara districts.

During the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 AM today, the highest rainfall was recorded from the Laksapana area, measuring 43.5 mm.
