COLOMBO (Newsv 1st): Deputy Minister Eranga Gunasekara states that further steps regarding the Cabinet's approval of the proposal to extend the retirement age of judges in all courts by two years, will be announced in the future.
According to the proposal approved by the Cabinet yesterday, a constitutional amendment proposal will be drafted to extend the retirement age of Supreme Court and Court of Appeal judges by two years.
Cabinet approval has also been granted to amend the Judicature Act to extend the retirement age of judges in other courts.
Accordingly, cabinet approval has been received to forward the relevant drafts to the Legal Draftsman for preparation and subsequently to the Attorney General for clearance.
