Murdered Chinese Man Used Suriname Passport To Enter Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st); Fresh details have emerged regarding the Chinese national who was abducted from Colombo Port City and later found murdered, as investigators continue to unravel what appears to be a complex case involving large sums of money and possible international criminal links.

The revelations have surfaced during investigations being conducted by the Colombo Crimes Division.

Investigators have discovered that the deceased Chinese national had arrived in Sri Lanka from Cambodia on April 7 along with a group of individuals.

Police further revealed that he had entered the country using a passport issued by the Republic of Suriname.

Authorities have also uncovered what they described as unusually large sums of money in accounts linked to the deceased.

According to investigators, the killing is believed to have been connected to a dispute involving those funds.

Police stated that information gathered so far indicates that the victim, identified as Hao Song, was a key member of an organized cybercrime operation.

Meanwhile, the deceased man's driver, chef and girlfriend have been taken into the custody of the Colombo Crimes Division and are currently being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police said five dedicated investigative teams have been deployed to probe different aspects of the case.

According to investigators, the confrontation between two groups of Chinese nationals unfolded in the early hours of Thursday (23) inside Colombo Port City.

Police said three Chinese nationals had gone onto the suspension bridge inside Port City at around 11.00 p.m. on the previous night to engage in fishing activities when, at approximately 2.00 a.m., a second group comprising around 20 Chinese nationals arrived at the location.

The group allegedly threatened the three men with firearms, assaulted them and abducted them.

Two of the victims were later found abandoned inside a van within Port City with their hands and legs bound, while the third man was taken away to an unknown location.

Hours later, the body of the abducted Chinese national was discovered in the Eheliyagoda area.

Investigators said the victim had sustained severe injuries and was found with his hands, legs and eyes bound.

Police also revealed that stones had been placed over the body in an apparent attempt to conceal it.

Meanwhile, investigators have recovered a vehicle believed to have been used by those involved in the killing from the Eheliyagoda area.

A luxury jeep also suspected to be connected to the crime was discovered in the Pahala Bope area of Padukka.

The case has gained added significance against the backdrop of a series of cybercrime and financial fraud investigations that have led to the arrest of large numbers of foreign nationals, including Chinese citizens, across Sri Lanka in recent months.
