COLOMBO (News 1st) - According to the National Dengue Control Unit A Special Dengue Eradication Drive covering 60 high-risk Dengue zones begins today.
The programme is being coordinated under the Clean Sri Lanka initiative on behalf of the Presidential Secretariat.
Acting Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, said it is essential for the public to keep their surroundings clean over the next month to reduce the spread of dengue mosquitoes.
A total of 67,143 dengue cases have been reported so far this year, the death toll has risen to 47.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni said the government is taking steps to provide all facilities required to treat dengue patients.
Secretary to Ministry of Education Nalaka Kaluwewa says students will be allowed to wear suitable clothing that covers their arms and legs, in addition to the school uniform, to help protect themselves from mosquitoes.
Meanwhile, "Stop Dengue Now – National Dengue Eradication Programme" is continuing for the Fifth Day today.
The programme is being carried out across the Colombo, Gampaha, and Kalutara districts.
The initiative is organized jointly by Maharaja Media Network, led by News First, together with the Ministry of Health and Mass Media.
