COLOMBO (News 1st): The Expressway Transport Safety Division states that legal action has been taken against approximately 400 individuals so far for violating the seatbelt law on expressways.

The division mentioned that these inspections are being carried out at every entrance and exit of the expressways.

The law requiring passengers in every vehicle traveling on expressways to wear seatbelts was enforced starting from the 20th.

However, a three-month grace period has been granted for entering expressways to vehicles that were manufactured without seatbelts installed.

The Chairman of the National Council for Road Safety, Manjula Kularatne, noted that this step was taken for the safety of passengers traveling on the expressways.
