Construction of Kurunegala–Dambulla Expressway to Begin in November

COLOMBO (News 1st) – According to the Road Development Authority (RDA) the construction of the first phase of the proposed Kurunegala–Dambulla Expressway is expected to begin in November this year. 

Director General of RDA, Anuradha Hettiarachchi, says the first phase will cover the stretch from Kurunegala to Galewela.

The section will span approximately 37 kilometres.

He noted that land acquisition for the project has already been completed, while the tender process for construction is expected to begin in September.

According to the RDA, construction of the Kurunegala–Galewela section is scheduled to be completed by mid-2029.

The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 218 billion.

The Road Development Authority stated that the construction work is expected to be carried out by local contractors.
