COLOMBO (News 1st); Qatar has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining uninterrupted energy supplies and continuing its role as a stable and reliable partner in the global energy sector, despite mounting regional challenges, Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani said during a telephone conversation with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The discussion took place against the backdrop of rising tensions in the Middle East and focused on the broader regional situation and its potential international implications.

During the call, President Dissanayake inquired about the current conditions in Qatar, with particular emphasis on the safety and well‑being of more than 150,000 Sri Lankans living and working in the country.

The Emir assured the Sri Lankan leader that Qatar remains fully committed to safeguarding the security and welfare of all residents in the country, including Sri Lankan expatriates.

He also briefed President Dissanayake on the prevailing situation in Qatar amid regional developments, providing reassurances on internal stability.

The two leaders also exchanged views on the wider challenges that could emerge as a result of ongoing regional instability.

Particular attention was paid to the potential risks facing key global maritime routes, especially the Strait of Hormuz, and the possible disruptions such developments could cause to global supply chains and international energy markets.

President Dissanayake underscored the importance of enhanced international coordination to mitigate the economic impact of rising energy costs, particularly on developing countries such as Sri Lanka.

Both leaders expressed deep concern over the implications of the current situation for regional and global stability. They emphasized the urgent need to prevent any further escalation of conflict and highlighted the importance of pursuing diplomatic solutions through constructive dialogue.

President Dissanayake reiterated that peaceful engagement and diplomacy remain the only viable path toward sustainable stability.
