COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute (HARTI) reassured that there is no long-term risk of vegetable prices skyrocketing in the local market, despite the recent rise in fuel prices.
Highlighting on the the current market trends Director of the Institute, Professor A.L. Sandika said,
vegetable supplies to the market have been significantly increased in response to the high demand observed over the past few weeks.
However, A slight, temporary increase in prices may occur due to rising transportation costs triggered by fuel price adjustments.
The Director noted that because supply remains high and overall demand is expected to stabilize, prices are unlikely to remain high in the long run.
