COLOMBO (News 1st); China will send Zhai Jun, the Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue, to the region soon to work actively toward de-escalating the rising tensions, the Foreign Ministry announced.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said China is gravely concerned over the tense situation in the Middle East, and over the past several days has engaged in intensive diplomatic outreach.
According to her, Foreign Minister Wang Yi has held phone conversations with his counterparts from Russia, Iran, Oman, France, Israel, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, conducting in-depth exchanges on the regional situation. She said Wang Yi stressed that the purposes and principles of the UN Charter must be observed, and that the arbitrary use of force in international relations must be rejected.
He called for an immediate stop to military operations, an early return to dialogue and negotiation, and efforts to prevent further escalation of tensions or the spread of conflict.
Mao Ning said China has urged all parties to the conflict to fulfill their international obligations, ensure the safety of civilians, and avoid any attacks on civilian facilities.
She emphasised that the protraction and escalation of the conflict serves no one’s interest, adding that China believes war and force cannot deliver lasting solutions, while dialogue and negotiation remain the right path.
According to the spokesperson, China will continue working with all parties, including the parties directly involved in the conflict, to maintain communication, deepen engagement, and build consensus.
She confirmed that Special Envoy Zhai Jun will soon be dispatched to the Middle East to work actively toward easing tensions.
