Brace for Impact: Sri Lanka Faces Days of Heavy Rain

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Meteorology Department has warned of a significant increase in rainfall across the island over the next few days, citing the influence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone and prevailing atmospheric disturbances.

According to the advisory, certain areas in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central, Uva, and North-Western provinces could experience heavy showers exceeding 100 millimeters within the next 17 hours. 

The department has issued a special warning for severe rainfall.

Officials also cautioned that strong winds may accompany the heavy showers.

Thunderstorms are also expected in several regions.

The Meteorology Department urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize risks associated with strong winds and lightning during this period.
