Hand Grenade, Meth Found in Vehicle After Police Pursuit

COLOMBO (News 1st); Police recovered a hand grenade and nearly 2 grams of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) from a car that sped through a checkpoint on Janaraja Mawatha in Vellamada, Matara, last night.

According to police, the incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. when officers signaled the vehicle to stop. 

The driver ignored the order, prompting police to open fire on the car. The suspect later abandoned the vehicle and fled but was apprehended while hiding.

Investigations revealed that the same vehicle had allegedly been used for surveillance in connection with the recent double murder near the Devinuwara temple. 

Police also suspect the individual is involved in drug trafficking.
