Navy Rescues 6 Abandoned Human Smuggling Victims

COLOMBO (News 1st) The Sri Lanka Navy rescued six Sri Lankan nationals who had been abandoned by human smugglers on a remote sand dune off the coast of Talaimannar.

The operation was launched by SLNS Thammanna of the North Central Naval Command, following credible intelligence.

The victims, aged between 8 and 56, were found on Sand Dune VII, suffering from severe dehydration after being illegally transported by sea from India and left stranded..

The individuals, residents of Vavuniya, Madhu, and Kokkadicholai, were handed over to Talaimannar Police for further legal proceedings.

The Navy continues to conduct regular patrols and search operations around Sri Lanka’s coastal and maritime zones to combat irregular migration and human smuggling, which pose serious humanitarian and security risks.
