COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo High Court ordered that the evidence examination in the case against three suspects accused of attempting to assassinate former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka through a suicide bombing be rescheduled for August 4.

The case was heard before High Court Judge Lanka Jayaratne.

During the proceedings, Deputy Solicitor General Lakmali Karunanayake, appearing for the prosecution, requested a new date for evidence review after a scheduled witness failed to appear in court.

Accepting the request, the judge postponed the hearing to August 4 for further examination of evidence.

The case was filed following the April 25, 2006 suicide bombing at Army Headquarters in Colombo, which targeted then-Army Commander Fonseka.

The suspects are charged under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and Emergency Regulations, with 27 counts including conspiracy to commit murder and aiding and abetting terrorism.
